About the kerf and smallest hole

Kerf width, cut speed, amperage and the smallest clean hole for each material and thickness we cut.

How it works

Values come from the cut charts our machines run. As a rule the smallest clean plasma hole is about the plate thickness and never under 3 mm; smaller holes are marked for drilling.

Questions

What is kerf?

The width of material the plasma arc removes, typically 1.5 to 3 mm depending on thickness and amperage. The cutting path is offset by half the kerf so parts come out to size.

What is the smallest hole you can plasma cut?

About the plate thickness, and never under 3 mm. Smaller holes are centre-marked for drilling.
