About Mild steel
Mild steel is what most plasma-cut parts are made from: it cuts fast and clean, welds easily and is the cheapest plate per kilo. S275 is the general structural grade; S355 is stronger for the same thickness and is often specified by engineers for connections.
Grades: S275, S355, S235, DX51. Thickness from 1 mm to 50 mm.
Typical uses: Base plates, fin plates, gussets, brackets, stair stringers, machine plates and most fabricated steelwork.
Edge and finish
A plasma-cut edge on mild steel is square to within a few degrees with a thin oxide layer. Grind or blast it before welding or painting for the best finish. We can supply parts as cut, deburred or primed.

Questions
Should I choose S275 or S355?
Use the grade on your engineer's drawing. If there is no drawing, S275 suits general fabrication; S355 is used when a connection needs the extra strength.
Can plasma-cut mild steel be galvanised?
Yes. Parts are usually cut, deburred and then hot-dip galvanised; holes should allow for the zinc coating.
