About Corten (weathering) steel
Corten is a weathering steel. Left outdoors it forms a stable rust-coloured layer over a few months that slows further corrosion, so it needs no paint.
Grades: S355J2W, Corten A. Thickness from 1.5 mm to 30 mm.
Typical uses: Garden edging, planters, screens, signs, fire pits and architectural cladding features.
Edge and finish
Cut edges weather to match the face over time. Rust run-off can stain paving and render while the layer forms, so allow for drainage away from light surfaces.

Questions
How long does Corten take to turn orange?
Usually a few weeks to a few months outdoors, depending on how often it gets wet and dries.
Does Corten need sealing?
No for outdoor use. Indoors it will not form the protective layer, so it is often sealed.
