Free, no sign-up. Everything is worked out in your browser and nothing you type is sent to us.

About the plate weight calculator

Work out the weight of a steel, stainless, aluminium, Corten, Hardox, brass or copper plate before you order it, including rings, discs, triangles and rounded corners, with the holes taken off.

How it works

Weight = net area × thickness × density. Mild steel is 7,850 kg/m³, so a 1,000 × 500 × 10 mm plate weighs 39.25 kg. Holes are subtracted from the area before the weight is worked out.

Questions

How heavy is a 10 mm steel plate per square metre?

About 78.5 kg per square metre in mild steel (7,850 kg/m³ × 0.01 m).

Do you charge material by weight?

Yes. Material is priced by weight with a small offcut allowance, plus the machine time to cut it.
